Atlanta BeltLine Running Club

One of my favorite things that our city has to offer is the Atlanta BeltLine.  The Atlanta BeltLine Running Series, which hosts various 5k/10ks throughout the year has a running club that meets once a month and is open to the public.  This month’s running club is meeting at Loca Luna on Thursday 1/10/13 at 6:30pm.  This is a great opportunity to check out the BeltLine, meet new folks and get a little workout in.  Oh, and I’m pretty sure there are tapas and drinks at the end!  For more info on the running club, check out their Facebook event page, Atlanta BeltLine Run Club.

Kirkwood’s Spring Fling Saturday May 19th!

Don’t miss being a part of the 10th Annual Kirkwood Spring Fling & Tour of Homes on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20.  Celebrating the historic and eclectic in-town neighborhood of Kirkwood, this family-friendly Festival offers a fun-filled opportunity to enjoy the warmth of Spring with a 5K, juried Artist’s Market, diverse line-up of live music, creative kids’ activities, a new Green Area and the Tour of Homes.
The Spring Fling kicks off with a winding 5K thorough Kirkwood’s tree-lined streets at 8 a.m. on Saturday.  The Festival’s Artist Market, complete with works crafted by more than 90 artists, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Kids of all ages are sure to enjoy the Children’s Area and its crafts and face painting with Soulshine, hula-hooping with Hoopessence, storytelling from The Wren’s Nest, the ever-popular Moonbounce and more.  Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A variety of local bands, including Atlanta favorites The Deadfields, Blair Crimmins and Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics, will take the Mainstage from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Throughout the day, enjoy munchies from Kirkwood’s Urban Pie (http://urbanpieatl.com/) and local food trucks providing hot dogs, Jamaican and Caribbean fare, ice-cream and traditional Festival favorites such as pretzels, popcorn and ice-cream.  And let’s not forget the cool beverages: sodas, beer and homemade Sangria!

Explore Kirkwood’s historic homes during the Tour of Homes on May 19 and 20 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.  You’ll see everything from Victorians to Craftsman bungalows with interior design that ranges form the traditional to funky-chic. Tour of Homes tickets are $20.

Home buying may never get any cheaper.

Here’s a great article outlining why this will probably be the last year to get the best deals in real estate.   The combination of inventory starting to sell, savvy investors who are quick to snatch up properties “monopoly-style” and both home prices and interest rates beginning to creep back up will limit choices for those of us who have been waiting for prices to drop just a bit more.  The perfect time to buy is now!

Tour the Beltline!!! — For FREE :)

Did you know that the Atlanta Beltline Partnership offers free tours of the 22-mile Beltline path on Fridays and Saturdays??  I took this tour about 3 years ago and am planning on doing it again soon.  The guided bus tour starts at the Inman Park Marta station and follows the path while pointing out major Beltline stops and points of interest along the route.   For me, one of the highlights of the tour was a stop at the Bellwood Quarry on the West End.  Yes, you read correctly, Bellwood Quarry!  I had lived in Atlanta 16 years when I took the tour and know idea that we had a quarry and especially an active one.  The quarry will eventually become one of the new parks that will be created along the route.
